Incubation with 14C-dopamine or 14C(±)-noradrenaline revealed that the vesicles were able to take up catecholamines by two different transport mechanisms; one was dependent on ATP, magnesium and temperature, the other one was independent of ATP and magnesium, and partially dependent on temperature.

ACTIVE UPTAKE OF [3H]5‐HT BY SYNAPTIC VESICLES FROM RAT BRAIN
- Biology, ChemistryJournal of neurochemistry
- 1978
It was concluded that synaptic vesicles from whole rat brain accumulate [3H]5‐HT by an active process and could not be accounted for by either changes in osmotic pressure or ionic strength.

Uptake of serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid and histamine into synaptic vesicles of the pig caudate nucleus
- BiologyNaunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology
- 2004
It is concluded that the caudate nucles preparation used in this study contains not only dopamine-storing vesicle able to take up biogenic amines but also GABA-containing vesicles which take up GABA by an ATP-magnesium-dependent process.
Stereoselectivity of noradrenaline uptake into synaptic vesicles of the rat brain
- Biology, ChemistryNaunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology
- 2004
It is concluded that the ATP-Mg2+-dependent uptake of noradrenaline into synaptic vesicles of the rat brain is stereoselective and that both isomers share the same transport system.
A possible intraneuronal site of action of thymoleptics
- Biology, ChemistryPsychopharmacology
- 2004
The results indicate that the inhibition of CA uptake by thymoleptics in the hypothalamus is predominantly due to the inhibition at the synaptic vesicle, while in the striatum the uptake at the synaptosomal membrane is predominantly inhibited.

Synaptic vesicles of cardiac sympathetic neurons thus resemble vesicle prepared from other central and peripheral catecholaminergic tissues; this method may be used readily to examine drug effects on rat heart synapticVesicle function.
