Isolated primary follicles from 10-day-old mice were cultured in a collagen gel matrix for 6 days in Minimum Essential Medium + foetal calf serum, followed by culture in unsupplemented medium (control) or in medium containing hypoxanthine (2 mM) or dibutyryl cyclic adenosine monophosphate (dbcAMP, 0.25 mM) for a further 3 or 6 days.
