The effect of oral creatine supplementation on aerobic and anaerobic performance was investigated in 16 elite male rowers during 7-day endurance training. Before and after the daily ingestion of 20 g creatine monohydrate for 5 days (Cr-Group, n=8) or placebo (Pl-Group, n=8), subjects performed two exercise tests on a rowing ergometer: (a) incremental exercise consisting of 3-min stage durations and increased by 50 W until volitional exhaustion; (b) an all-out anaerobic exercise performed…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Exercise performance and muscle contractile properties after creatine monohydrate supplementation in aerobic-anaerobic training rats.
TLDR
It was found out that creatine supplementation improved the exercise performance after 20 days of administration in a dose of 60 mg per day on the background of a mixed (aerobic-anaerobic) exercise training.
Oral creatine supplementation's decrease of blood lactate during exhaustive, incremental cycling.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that creatine supplementation decreases lactate during incremental cycling exercise and tends to raise lactate threshold, therefore, creatine supplementation could potentially benefit endurance athletes.
Effect of Ten Weeks of Creatine Monohydrate Plus HMB Supplementation on Athletic Performance Tests in Elite Male Endurance Athletes
TLDR
CrM plus HMB supplementation over 10 weeks showed a synergistic effect on aerobic power during an incremental test but had no influence muscle mass, as measured as WAT, W4, and W8.
Creatine Supplementation Enhances Endurance Performance in Trained Rats
TLDR
It is concluded that Cr supplementation provided rats an increased ability to run farther demonstrating possible implications for improving endurance athletes' performances.
The effects of BCAA and creatine supplementation on anaerobic capacity and ball kicking speed in male football players
Background and objective: The use of nutritional supplements has increased in recent years. This study analyzes the effects of Branched-Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) and creatine (CR) supplementation on
Supplementation with a Polyphenol-Rich Extract, PerfLoad®, Improves Physical Performance during High-Intensity Exercise: A Randomized, Double Blind, Crossover Trial
TLDR
Results demonstrated that PerfLoad® is a natural and efficient solution capable of, similarly to training benefits, helping athletes to improve their physical performance, while balancing their metabolism and reducing exercise-induced oxidative stress.
Effect of creatine malate supplementation on physical performance, body composition and selected hormone levels in spinters and long-distance runners.
TLDR
A significant ergogenic effect was found in sprinters, which was reflected by the increase in anaerobic exercise indices and morphological indices and elevated growth hormone level, after graded exercise testing.
Effect of creatine supplementation on physiological demands and skill performance of futsal players
TLDR
Although CrS had no effect on skill performance, it improves physiological demands in futsal players, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreases after a week CrS.
Nutrition and Supplements for Elite Open-Weight Rowing
TLDR
This review will provide an overview of key nutritional strategies to optimize training and enhance adaptation, and briefly discuss supplement strategies that may support health and enhance performance in elite rowing.
Creatine Supplementation in Strength-Power Sports
TLDR
Oral creatine supplementation has been shown to provide numerous benefits, including increases in lean muscle mass, muscular strength, and enhanced performance in various athletic capacities.

Effect of oral creatine supplementation on jumping and running performance.
TLDR
The results show that Cr supplementation helps to prolong the time during which the maximal rate of power output could be maintained and the time of intensive running up to exhaustion improved by 13%.
Effect of creatine loading on endurance capacity and sprint power in cyclists.
TLDR
It is concluded that creatine loading improves intermittent sprint capacity at the end of endurance exercise to fatigue, which is counteracted by high dose creatine intake during exercise.
Effect of oral creatine supplementation on respiratory gas exchange and blood lactate accumulation during steady-state incremental treadmill exercise and recovery in man.
TLDR
The results showed no measurable effect of creatine supplementation on respiratory gas exchange and blood lactate concentrations during either incremental submaximal exercise or recovery, which suggests that creatine supplementation does not influence substrate utilization during and after this type of exercise.
Effects of creatine monohydrate supplementation during combined strength and high intensity rowing training on performance.
TLDR
Creatine monohydrate supplementation did not increase performance or training volume over a placebo condition in rowers that performed a combined high intensity rowing and strength program.
Creatine supplementation does not improve sprint performance in competitive swimmers.
TLDR
Creatine supplementation cannot be considered as an ergogenic aid for sprint performance in highly trained swimmers although adenine nucleotide degradation may be reduced during sprint exercise after 5 d of creatine ingestion.
Effect of oral creatine supplementation on single-effort sprint performance in elite swimmers.
TLDR
This study does not support the hypothesis that creatine supplementation enhances single-effort sprint ability of elite swimmers, and results revealed no significant differences between the group means for sprint times or between 10-s maximal leg ergometry power and work.
The influence of dietary creatine supplementation on performance during repeated bouts of maximal isokinetic cycling in man
TLDR
It is demonstrated that Cr ingestion can increase whole body exercise performance during the initial two, but not a third, successive bout of maximal exercise lasting 30 s, and the lower accumulation of plasma ammonia under these conditions suggests this response is achieved by an effect on muscle ATP turnover.
Effect of creatine supplementation on intramuscular TCr, metabolism and performance during intermittent, supramaximal exercise in humans.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that creatine supplementation results in an increase in TCr but this has no effect on performance during exercise of this nature, where the creatine kinase system is not the principal energy supplier.
The effects of creatine supplementation on high-intensity exercise performance in elite performers
TLDR
It is indicated that creatine supplementation can significantly increase the amount of work accomplished during kayak ergometer performance at durations ranging from 90 to 300 s.
Effect of oral creatine supplementation on power output and fatigue during bicycle ergometry.
TLDR
It is suggested that oral creatine supplementation does not positively affect power output or fatigue during continuous high-intensity bicycle exercise in untrained men.
