Cd accumulation, its effects on elongation growth of maize coleoptile segments, pH changes of their incubation medium and the membrane potential of parenchymal cells were studied. The Cd content increased significantly with exposure to increasing cadmium concentrations. Coleoptile segments accumulated the metal more efficiently in the range 10–100 µM Cd, than in the range 100–1000 µM Cd.
