Extensive use of biochar to mitigate nitrous oxide (N2O) emission is limited by the lack of understanding on the exact mechanisms altering N2O emission from biochar-amended soil. Biochars produced from rice straw and dairy manure at 350 and 500 degrees C by oxygen-limited pyrolysis were used to investigate their influence on N2O emission.
