BACKGROUND/AIMS Advanced glycated end products (AGE) are endogenous proteins that have formed covalent complexes with sugars by a nonenzymatic process. Being proinflammatory molecules, AGE are thought to contribute to chronic systemic and local inflammatory processes associated with pathological changes in various diseases.
