IN an earlier paper1 we reported that rifamycins M14 (diethylamide of rifamycin B) and SV inhibited 14C L-isoleucine incorporation by cell-free extracts of B. subtilis strain ATCC 6633.

Topics from this paper

Effect of rifampicin on tryptophanase induction in normal and rifampicin-resistantVibrio el tor
The induction of tryptophanase was not affected by rifampicin in the rifampicin-resistant mutant ofVibrio el tor while the antibiotic inhibited the induction of tryptophanase in the normal strain atExpand
Rifamycins LXI: In vivo inhibition of RNA synthesis by rifamycins
TLDR
I risultati indicano che il blocco della sintesi dell'RNA precede quello oferta delle proteine e del DNA di uracile, timina, fenilalanina e uridina-trifostato marcati con C14 da parte di colture di E. coli eB. Expand
Rifamycins as inhibitors of RNA and DNA polymerases
The rifamycins are a class of compounds obtained by chemical modification of one of the fermentation products of S t rep tomyces mediterranei (Sensi et al., 1966). This group of compounds wasExpand
Inhibition of RNA Polymerase by Rifampicin and Rifamycin-Like Molecules.
TLDR
An overview of the history of the discovery of rifamycins, their mechanisms of action, the mechanisms of bacterial resistance against them, and progress in their further development is provided. Expand
Development of Bacteriophage Alpha II. Dependence on the Host Ribonucleic Acid Polymerase
TLDR
RNA polymerase extracts showed the same in vitro rifampin sensitivity as the corresponding bacterial strains, showing that alpha phage development is dependent on the bacterial host RNA polymerase. Expand
Rifamycin antibiotics and the mechanisms of their failure.

Current understanding and recent developments regarding this critical antibiotic class, known for their use in treating tuberculosis, are summarized. Expand
Protein Synthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv and the Effect of Streptomycin in Streptomycin-Susceptible and -Resistant Strains
TLDR
In one low-level streptomycin-resistant mutant, the in vitro amino acid-incorporating system was as sensitive to various concentrations of strePTomycin as the parental type, and a possible involvement of a membrane site in the development of low- level resistance was indicated. Expand
Deciphering the late steps of rifamycin biosynthesis
TLDR
The two-subunit transketolase Rif15 and the cytochrome P450 enzyme Rif16 are found to mediate, respectively, a unique C–O bond formation in rifamycin L and an atypical P450 ester-to-ether transformation from rif amycin L to B. Expand
Inhibition of Rodent Malaria in Mice by Rifampicin
TLDR
Several investigators have studied the action of the rifamycins on protein synthesis and have come to the conclusion that in Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis the primary effect of the Rifamycin is the inhibition of DNA-directed RNA synthesis through the inhibited of RNA polymerase action. Protein and Ribonucleic Acid Synthesis by Plant Mitochondrial Systems
The incorporation of 14C-labelled phenylalanine into proteins of the mitochondrial systems obtained from 48-h germinating seeds of Vigna sinensis (L.) Savi can be stimulated by polyuridylic acidExpand

A procedure for the isolation of deoxyribonucleic acid from micro-organisms
TLDR
A method has been described for the isolation of DNA from micro-organisms which yields stable, biologically active, highly polymerized preparations relatively free from protein and RNA, and Representative samples have been characterized for their thermal stability and sedimentation behaviour.
