To investigate the effects of pentoxifylline (PTX) to enhance the motility and fertilization capacity of semen samples with the low-motile sperm in Asian elephants, fourteen semen collection attempts in 9 elephant bulls by manual stimulation were undertaken and eleven ejaculates fitted the criteria of investigation (0-30% motility). They were divided into two groups: poor-motile (0-9% motility) and low-motile (10-30% motility) sperm groups. Fresh semen samples were divided as a control group…

Supplemented stallion seminal plasma can improve impaired motility due to the dilution effect in chilled Asian elephant sperm

Elephant sperm motility was affected by a dilution effect and restoration of SP proportion with stallion SP, but not with elephant SP, could improve motility in chilled highly diluted sperm.

The presence of seminal plasma, especially derived from stallion semen, helps preserve chilled Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) sperm motility

The presence of SP helps preserve Asian Elephant sperm quality and stallion SP supports the motility of Asian elephant spermatozoa during cold storage.

Effect of cooled storage on quality and DNA integrity of Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) spermatozoa.

Sperm DNA stability during incubation at 37°C is a promising, discriminative parameter for selecting semen storage conditions of bulls for elephant AI and BullMax allows more linear movement and better preserves DNA stability of stored elephant spermatozoa than TEST.

Effect of Various Concentrations of Caffeine, Pentoxifylline, and Kallikrein on Hyperactivation of Frozen Bovine Semen

It is concluded from the present study that caffeine has hyperactivation efficacy at 5 mM concentration compared to other treatments, and kallikrein is not necessary for the improvement of bovine sperm motility.

Refining Asian elephant semen technologies: The need for improved quality analysis and preservation techniques

It was demonstrated that sperm accumulation may be a significant contributor to poor semen quality in some Asian elephant males, because semen quality could be improved by frequent (alternate day) semen collection, and inclusion of additional antioxidants in the diluents may further improve sperm DNA stability during preservation.

Evaluation of pentoxifylline and Basal Medium Eagle supplemented to diluent on cryopreserved goat spermatozoa.

The observation in this study indicates using of 3 and 6 mM PTX and BME alone may improve significantly (P < 0.05) the quality of cryopreserved goat spermatozoa.

Effects of pentoxifylline on sperm motility characteristics and motility longevity of postthaw cryopreserved semen using computer-assisted semen analysis (CASA).

Computer-assisted sperm movement analysis was used to study the effect of pentoxifylline on human sperm motility characteristics and motility longevity of postthaw cryopreserved semen. This study

Persistent effects of pentoxifylline on human sperm motility, after drug removal, in normozoospermic and asthenozoospermic individuals

In both normo‐and asthenozoospermic individuals pentoxifylline appeared to enhance sperm motility for at least 180 min after drug removal, which should prevent any potentially toxic effects of the drug on oocytes if it is used to enhance semen motility during in vitro fertilization.

Pentoxifylline stimulates hyperactivation in human spermatozoa.

It was shown that hyperactivation remained elevated compared with the control after washing pentoxifylline from the suspension, a phenomenon which may be of value in the treatment of some forms of male factor infertility.

Manual collection and characterization of semen from Asian elephants (Elephas maximus).

Effect of pentoxifylline on motility and membrane integrity of cryopreserved human spermatozoa.

Pentoxifylline enhanced post-thaw motility of cryopreserved human spermatozoa when added after thawing, and no improvement was found by freezing sperm with pentoxifyinglline.

Effect of pentoxifylline on sperm movement characteristics in normozoospermic and asthenozoospermic specimens.

Computer-assisted sperm movement analysis is used to compare the effects of pentoxifylline in normozoos permic and asthenozoospermic specimens and shows that pentoxifyinglline improves the movement characteristics in mostAsthenozoespermic individuals.

Electroejaculated Baboon (Papio anubis) Sperm Requires a Higher Dosage of Pentoxifylline to Enhance Motility

Sperm collected by rectal probeelectroejaculation required a higher concentration of pentoxifylline for enhanced total motility, rapid progression, and higher velocity, which suggested differences in membraneproperties or phosphodisterase activity in electrojeaculatedsperm.

Pentoxifylline Initiates Motility in Spontaneously Immotile Epididymal and Testicular Spermatozoa and Allows Normal Fertilization, Pregnancy, and Birth After Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Pentoxifylline is used to enhancesperm motility in many in vitro fertilization programs and whether it can be used to select viable spermatozoa for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is investigated.
