The prevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) has increased worldwide, in part due to the HIV epidemic. Epidemiology data have demonstrated that HIV-infected individuals are more susceptible to MTB disease, which may lead to an acceleration in the progression of HIV disease.
