Halitosis is a disease that negative limpactsy people's lives. This single centre, randomized, crossover controlled trial compared: Periogard® with alcohol (positive control) (CHXw/a) and without alcohol (CHXn/a); Listerine Total® (EOw/a) and Listerine ZeroTM (EOn/a) arranged into four sequences of use. 21 volunteers with intra-oral halitosis used each product at once, followed by a one-week washout period. The breath was measured by portable gas chromatograph OralChromaTM before rinsing and…

How to deal with morning bad breath: A randomized, crossover clinical trial
TLDR
Mechanical tongue cleaning was able to immediately reduce bad breath for a short period, whereas chlorhexidine and mechanical oral hygiene reduced bad Breath for longer periods, achieving the best results against morning breath.
Effect of different mouthrinses on morning breath.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that morning halitosis can be successfully reduced via daily use of mouthrinses, and bad breath parameters systematically improved, with the exception of a slight increase in VSC levels while using CHX-Alc, a finding which was associated with the direct influence of the CHX on the sulfide monitor.
Efficacy of a 2-phase oil: water mouthrinse in controlling oral malodor, gingivitis, and plaque.
TLDR
Dramatic improvements were observed in parameters associated with malodor, periodontal health, plaque accumulation, and microbial levels in both groups, suggesting that the 2-phase mouthrinse is superior to the control Mouthrinse in long-term reduction of oral malodor.
Use of 0.1% chlorine dioxide to inhibit the formation of morning volatile sulphur compounds (VSC).
TLDR
It is suggested that a mouthrinse containing chlorine dioxide can maintain VSCs at lower levels in the morning breath within the limits of this study.
Comparative effects of different chlorhexidine mouth-rinse formulations on volatile sulphur compounds and salivary bacterial counts.
TLDR
Important differences can be expected from different CHX formulations, in relation to both their anti-halitosis effect and anti-microbial activity in saliva, and a formulation combining CHX with NaF resulted in the poorest.
An approach to efficacy screening of mouthrinses: studies on a group of French products (II). Inhibition of salivary bacteria and plaque in vivo.
TLDR
Hibident, Parodex and Prexidine showed similar plaque inhibition and were significantly more effective than all other rinses, and efficacy of a product cannot be assumed merely because it contains a known active plaque inhibitor.
Impact of mouthrinses on morning bad breath in healthy subjects.
TLDR
It is suggested that mouthrinses can reduce morning bad breath, and that such a reduction is not attributable only to the reduction of supragingival plaque formation.
Efficacy of a new mouthrinse formulation on the reduction of oral malodour in vivo. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 3 week clinical study.
TLDR
The newly developed mouthrinse product significantly reduces oral malodour in patients with increased values both in OR and in VSC, and there was also a trend towards fewer side effects caused by the ASF product compared to the products containing CHX.
Effects of a mouthwash with chlorine dioxide on oral malodor and salivary bacteria: a randomized placebo-controlled 7-day trial
TLDR
After rinsing with the mouthwash containing ClO2 for 7 days, morning bad breath decreased as measured by the OM and reduced the concentrations of H2S, CH3SH and (CH3)2S measured by GC, were found.
In vivo antimicrobial effectiveness of an essential oil-containing mouth rinse 12 h after a single use and 14 days' use.
TLDR
Rinsing with the essential oil mouth rinse can have long-lasting effects in reducing anaerobic bacteria overall as well as Gram-negative anaerobes and VSC-producing bacteria.
