Airway nitric oxide concentrations in patients with cystic fibrosis or primary ciliary dyskinesia syndrome have been shown to be lower than in healthy subjects. Decreased NO concentrations may contribute to impaired ciliary clearance, respiratory tract infections, or obstructive lung disease in these conditions.
