The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of a single dose of cephalexin on the pharmacokinetics of metformin in healthy human volunteers. A 2 x 2 double blind randomized crossover study was conducted in 12 healthy human volunteers. Each subject received orally either 500 mg of metformin with a placebo or a combination of 500 mg of metformin and 500 mg of cephalexin. Serum and urine levels of metformin were estimated by a validated HPLC method. The systemic disposition of metformin was… Expand
Clinical Pharmacokinetics of Metformin
TLDR
The effect of structural variants of OCTs and other cation transporters on the pharmacokinetics of metformin appears small and the subsequent effects on clinical response are limited, however, intersubject differences in the levels of expression of OCT1 and OCT3 in the liver are very large and may contribute more to the variations in the hepatic uptake and clinical effect of metforms. Impact Of Omeprazole, Rosuvastatin And Clopidogrel On The Pharmacokinetics Of Cefixime In Healthy Adult Human Subjects
TLDR
A novel isocratic, simple, economic, precise, selective, and reproducible RP-HPLC-UV method of determination of cefixime and cefdinir in human plasma was developed and validated and efficiently applied to a pharmacokinetic study in healthy adult volunteers. Expand
The Potency of Some Brands of Anti-Diabetic Medicine- Metformin Hydrochloride B.P 500 mg Tablet on the Ghanaian Market
TLDR
The results indicated that all the samples analyzed passed the test for assay, dissolution rate and uniformity of weight, and it is recommended that a study work be carried out on other brands of metformin hydrochloride. Expand
Effects of Yukmijihwang-tang, a Polyherb, on the Pharmacokinetics of Metformin.
TLDR
The pharmacokinetic parameters of metformin and Yukmijihwang-tang will help structure proper dosing regimens for the concomitant therapy of met formin and YMJHT. Expand
A Comprehensive Review of Drug–Drug Interactions with Metformin
TLDR
An evaluation of the literature has revealed holes in knowledge and given clues as to where future DDI studies should be focused and performed and the importance of including pharmacodynamic end points and taking pharmacogenetic variation into account when performing DDIs with metformin is clarified. Expand
Drug interactions with oral antidiabetic agents: pharmacokinetic mechanisms and clinical implications.
TLDR
This article reviews the pharmacokinetic DDIs concerning oral antidiabetics, including metformin, sulfonylureas, meglitinide analogs, thiazolidinediones and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors, and the underlying mechanistic basis that can help to predict and prevent DDIs. Expand
Metformin-Cefixime Co-administration affects Glucose Regulation and Reno-Pancreatic Histology in Alloxan-induced Hyperglycemic Rats
TLDR
Data from the study revealed a possible augmentation of the hypoglycaemic effect of metformin by cefixime, without any deleterious effect on renal and haematological parameters. Expand
Pharmacokinetic Drug Interactions of Antimicrobial Drugs: A Systematic Review on Oxazolidinones, Rifamycines, Macrolides, Fluoroquinolones, and Beta-Lactams
TLDR
An overview of all published pharmacokinetic studies on drug interactions of the commonly prescribed antimicrobial drugs oxazolidinones, rifamycines, macrolides, fluoroquinolones, and beta-lactams, focusing on systematic research is provided. Expand
Mechanisms of Drug Interactions II: Transport Proteins
Most pharmacokinetic studies so far have focused on the role of drug-metabolizing enzymes as the key determinants of drug disposition and their contribution to drug-drug interactions. It has nowExpand
BENEFICIAL EFFECT OF ETHONOLIC EXTRACT OF BAEL FRUIT IN COMBINATION WITH METFORMIN HCL IN NORMAL RABBITS

Pharmacokinetics of metformin after intravenous and oral administration to man
TLDR
The kinetics of14C-metformin have been studied in five healthy subjects after oral and intravenous administration, which resulted in a plasma concentration profile of “flip-flop” type for oral metformin. Expand

Metformin kinetics in healthy subjects and in patients with diabetes mellitus.
TLDR
Plasma metformin concentrations measured throughout the seventh and fourteenth days of continuous 0.5 g twice daily treatment were accurately predicted from single dose data, although a discrepancy between observed and predicted trough levels reflected the existence of a slow elimination phase. Expand
Selectivity of the cimetidine-induced alterations in the renal handling of organic substrates in humans. Studies with anionic, cationic and zwitterionic drugs.
TLDR
The hypothesis that cimetidine-mediated inhibition of renal drug clearance in humans is selective for a common cationic secretory transport mechanism in the proximal tubule of the kidney, rather than a nonspecific action on renal function is confirmed. Expand
Disposition of metformin (N,N‐dimethylbiguanide) in man
TLDR
Kinetic parameters ol metformin (N,N‐dimethylbiguanide), an anti‐diabetic reported to be associated with a lower number of episodes of lactic acidosis than phenformin, were determined in volunteers with normal renal function and in patients with different degrees ol renal impairment, to help explain the lower incidence of toxic effects. Expand
Reduction of metformin renal tubular secretion by cimetidine in man.
TLDR
It is concluded that cimetidine inhibits the renal tubular secretion of met formin in man, resulting in higher circulating plasma concentrations, and the dose of metformin should be reduced when cimeidine is co-prescribed. Expand
Cimetidine-procainamide pharmacokinetic interaction in man: Evidence of competition for tubular secretion of basic drugs
TLDR
It is suggested that cimetidine inhibits the tubular secretion of both procainamide and n-acetylprocainamide, and, if so, represents the first documented evidence for this type of drug interaction in man. Expand
