1-beta-D-Arabinofuranosylcytosine (ara-C) is an anti-leukemic agent that incorporates into cellular DNA leading to inhibition of DNA synthesis and loss of clonogenic survival. In contrast, ionizing radiation induces DNA damage through the generation of reactive oxygen intermediates.
