  • Abstract The biological and behavioural effects of groundnut fats on C. maculatus are demonstrated. No larval development was observed on groundnut kernels or pellets prepared from normal kernels. Whilst female beetles would not oviposit on these pellets, they did lay eggs on kernels. When pellets were prepared from defatted groundnut flour, 50% of the experimental population thrived on it. The remainder died at different stages in the life cycle.
