Abstract Finite state machines are widely used to model systems in diverse areas viz. sequential circuits, pattern matching, communication protocols (D. Lee, M. Yannakakis, Proceedings of IEEE 84 (8) (1996) 1090–1123). Autonomous machines (Cellular Automata or CA) belong to a special class of finite state machines where previous output acts as the present input. Also, for variety of applications (A.K. Das, P.P.
