In an article recently published, Vizcaíno and Fariña (1999) reanalyse the fossil evidence available of the giant bird Argentavis magnificens Campbell and Tonni (Aves: Ciconiiformes: Teratornithidae), known from three Upper Miocene localities in central and northwestern Argentina.
