Ecological Study of Bryophytes on Platanus orientalis L. Trees in Nainital (Western Himalaya)
@article{Bargali2014EcologicalSO, title={Ecological Study of Bryophytes on Platanus orientalis L. Trees in Nainital (Western Himalaya)}, author={Ravinder Bargali and Vishal Awasthi and Neerja Pande}, journal={American Journal of Plant Sciences}, year={2014}, volume={5}, pages={3880-3888} }
The bryophytic vegetation associated with Platanus orientalis trees were studied and compared with other important tree species of Nainital. In total 27 mosses and liverworts belonging to 14 families with three morphological groups formed the principle component of Platanus orientalis tree bark. Based on IVI (Important Value Index), Regmatodon orthostegius together with Brachymenium capitulatum formed the pioneer community, while Herpetineuron toccoae formed the climax community on the Platanus…

In this study, epiphytic bryophytes of old-growth Platanus orientalis gallery forest in Kadıncık Valley (Mersin/Turkey) were studied. In total thirthy-three epiphytic bryophyte species were found (29…
The abundance of epiphytic liverworts on the bark of Cryptomeria japonica in relation to different physical and biochemical attributes, found in Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, Darjeeling, Eastern Himalaya

To sustain the occurrence of epiphytic liverworts in ecosystems, forest management should ensure the presence of old trees, so it is important to maintain tree cover, shrub layer, and tree density.

Comparison of species composition and ordinations using quantitative frequency and cover measurements for the five major tree species showed that very few species were host specific, but that most communities of lichens, of bryophytes, and of both combined, were specific to particular tree species.

Fifty-four species of mosses and eighteen species of liverworts were present on the bases of 120 trees belonging to six host species in a cove forest and the ordering of epiphytic communities was correlated with a gradient of decreasing bark pH and with the water absorption capacities of the barks.

Ordination analysis revealed that altitude as a complex ecological factor explained most of the variation in the data, and species-area curves indicated that sampling at each investigated site (altitude) was adequate within the restrictions imposed by the sampling method.
