BACKGROUND Extensive resection of the tumor has been associated with better survival of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) patients. However, surgery is not the rule for ATC patients with distant metastases at the time of diagnosis (stage IV-C), regardless of tumor resectability.
