  • Abstract The paper concerns the Miocene deposits of the Alicante region (SE Spain) which forms part of the Prebetic and Intermediate units, representing the former southern passive margin of the Iberian continent. From the Late Jurassic up to the Miocene, the Alicante region was the scene of a facies distribution with more continental, lagoonal or shallow marine conditions in the north and northwest, and more open or deeper marine in the south and southeast.
