OBJECTIVE Neurodevelopmental hypotheses of schizophrenia propose that the responsible pathology occurs much earlier than the usual onset of illness in late adolescence. Nonspecific neurocognitive and behavioral deficits found in children vulnerable to schizophrenia support this hypothesis.
