  • A striking example for this, taken from the field of construction and structural engineering, is the development of flat slab ceilings made from reinforced concrete. The mushroom slab system is widely regarded as the first genuine reinforced concrete construction, avoiding beam-and-girder systems (mostly identified with Francois Hennebique), replacing them with slabs on columns with extended capitals.
