We study the evolution of the broad, double-peaked Hα emission-line profile of the LINER/Seyfert 1 nucleus of NGC 1097, using 24 spectra obtained over a time span of 11 years—from 1991 November through 2002 October. While in the first 5 years the main variation was in the relative intensity of the blue and red peaks, in the last years we have also observed an increasing separation between the two peaks, at the same time as the integrated flux in the broad line has decreased. We propose a… Expand

SHORT TIMESCALE VARIATIONS OF THE Hα DOUBLE-PEAKED PROFILE OF THE NUCLEUS OF NGC 1097
The broad (FWHM {approx} 10,000 km s{sup -1}) double-peaked H{alpha} profile from the LINER/Seyfert 1 nucleus of NGC 1097 was discovered in 1991 and monitored for the following 11 years. The profileExpand

We explore the connection between active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with single- and double-peaked broad Balmer emission lines by using models dealing with radiative transfer effects through a disk wind.Expand
Interpreting the Variability of Double-Peaked Emission Lines in Active Galactic Nuclei with Stochastically Perturbed Accretion Disk Models
• Physics

In an effort to explain the short-timescale variability of the broad, double-peaked profiles of some active galactic nuclei, we constructed stochastically perturbed accretion disk models andExpand
The Broad-Line Region in Active Galactic Nuclei
We review the basic observed and inferred properties of the broad emission-line region in AGNs, as well as the basics of the reverberation-mapping technique that can be used to determine the size andExpand
Nature of quasar disk-wind
The brightest persistent astrophysical sources in the universe are quasars, a group of active galactic nuclei (AGN) that appear star-like and radiate across all wavelengths. The emitted radiation isExpand

Double-peaked emission lines as a probe of the broad-line regions of active galactic nuclei
• Physics
• 2009
Abstract Broad, double-peaked, Balmer emission lines are found in the optical spectra of a relatively small fraction of active galactic nuclei. They can be an extremely useful diagnostic for theExpand

• Physics
• 2006
We report on the radio-quiet quasar SDSS J2125−0813 which obviously emits optical Fe ii emission lines and double-peaked broad Balmer emission lines. Using the accretion disc model for double-peaked,Expand

Spectroscopic observations from the Hubble Space Telescope reveal the presence of a broad pedestal of Balmer line emission in the LINER galaxy NGC 4203, and this value is consistent with advection-dominated accretion and hence with scenarios in which an ion torus irradiates an outer accretion disk that produces the observed double-peaked line emission.
