Myocardial infarction (MI) is a sever emergency and the life threatening condition if left untreated, it may be a cause of death. Objective: This study was conducted to (i) observe patients of different age groups who are mostly affected from the MI in Southern Punjab, Pakistan and (ii) evaluate various cardiac biomarkers (Troponin-T, CPK, CKMB, AST and LDH enzymes) for the detection of MI and the role of risk factors especially hypertension, age factor and diabetes. Methodology: This study was… Expand

Cardiac-specific troponin I levels to predict the risk of mortality in patients with acute coronary syndromes.
TLDR
In patients with acute coronary syndromes, cardiac troponin I levels provide useful prognostic information and permit the early identification of patients with an increased risk of death. Expand
Prognostic significance of admission troponin T concentrations in patients with myocardial infarction.
TLDR
The presence of admission troponin T in patients with myocardial infarction defines a subgroup, particularly those with ST-segment elevation, at increased risk of subsequent cardiac events and identifies a group that may benefit from alternative early management strategies. Expand
Mechanisms behind the prognostic value of troponin T in unstable coronary artery disease: a FRISC II substudy.
TLDR
Any detectable elevation of tnT raises the probability of significant coronary stenosis and thrombus formation and is associated with an increased risk of reinfarction and death, but at a more pronounced elevation of troponin, a higher proportion of patients has a persistent occlusion of the culprit vessel and reduced left ventricular function. Expand
Cardiac troponin elevations in patients without acute coronary syndrome.
TLDR
It has been demonstrated that testing for troponins on admission and again after 6 to 12 hours provides better risk stratification than previously used algorithms based on the ECG and creatine kinase MB. Expand
Relation between troponin T and the risk of subsequent cardiac events in unstable coronary artery disease. The FRISC study group.
TLDR
Tronin T determination is an inexpensive and widely applicable method for early risk assessment in patients with unstable coronary artery disease and the maximum tn-T value obtained during the first 24 hours provides independent and important prognostic information. Expand
Cardiac Troponin T Predicts Mortality in Patients With End-Stage Renal Disease
TLDR
It is concluded that total homocysteine and particularly cardiac troponin T are important predictors of mortality in patients with end-stage renal disease, whereas other laboratory variables and baseline disease status have less prognostic value. Expand
Mitigation of the clinical significance of spurious elevations of cardiac troponin I in settings of coronary ischemia using serial testing of multiple cardiac markers.
TLDR
Logistic regression analysis shows that by hierarchically analyzing electrocardiographic changes with concurrent creating kinase-MB and myoglobin levels at the time of the troponin elevation, one may predict with 91% accuracy whether the trop onin elevation is actually indicative of a myocardial infarction in a patient. Expand
[Usefulness of rapid bedside cardiac troponin T assay for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction].
TLDR
The Trop T test was performed and measured serum levels of myoglobin(Mb), creatine kinase MB isoenzyme(CK-MB) and cTnT in 256 consecutive emergency patients with suspected AMI and had the best concordance of 92% with a quantitative of cTtnT assay. Expand
Myocardial infarction redefined--a consensus document of The Joint European Society of Cardiology/American College of Cardiology Committee for the redefinition of myocardial infarction.
TLDR
Biochemical markers of myocardial necrosis may have normalized, depending on the length of time that has passed since the infarct developed, and one of the following criteria satisfies the diagnosis for established MI: development of new pathologic Q waves on serial ECGs. Expand
Analytical and clinical performance of an improved qualitative troponin T rapid test in laboratories and critical care units.
TLDR
The troponin T rapid test gives reliable results not only when used by laboratory personnel experienced in the execution of analytical methods, but also in the hands of nurses and physicians working in clinical units outside the laboratory. Expand
