In database development, a conceptual model is created, in the form of an Entity-relationship(ER) model, and transformed to a relational database schema (RDS) to create the database. However, some important information represented on the ER model may not be transformed and represented on the RDS. This situation causes a loss of information during the transformation process. With a view to preserving information, in our previous study, we standardized the transformation process as a one-to-one…

Extracting Semantic Information from Graphic Schemes
A conclusion has made about the relevance of this task for universal editors that are not tied to specific graphic notations and use open graphic document formats, which allows program processing, and the proposed approach is implemented on the base of a situation-oriented paradigm.

An Improved Generic ER Schema for Conceptual Modeling of Information Systems
A generic ER schema is created - an ER schema that represents any phenomena in symbolic form - and it is used to show that a one-to-one mapping exists for any real-world application.
A Survey of Database Design Transformations Based on the Entity-Relationship Model
A novel ER model to relational model transformation algorithm for semantically clear high quality database design
This paper presents the proposed transformation algorithm and shows how the algorithm can be applied in practice, and how to validate the resulted database and reclaim the information that it represents.
Modifying the Entity relationship modelling notation: towards high quality relational databases from better notated ER models
This paper has adapted the original ER notation and developed a new transformation algorithm based on the existing one and presents the modified ER notation with an ER diagram drawnbased on the new notation.
The Transformational Approach to Database Engineering
The concept of transformation is developed, together with its properties of semantics-preservation (or reversibility) and the impact on CASE technology is discussed.
The entity-relationship model: toward a unified view of data
A data model, called the entity-relationship model, is proposed that incorporates some of the important semantic information in the real world and can be used as a basis for unification of different views of data: the network model, the relational model, and the entity set model.
A Relational Model of Data Large Shared Data Banks

  • 2000
A model based on n-ary relations, a normal form for data base relations, and the concept of a universal data sublanguage are introduced and certain operations on relations are discussed and applied to the problems of redundancy and consistency in the user's model.
Relational Database Design: A Review
This paper review the various researches works done earlier in this field of Relational Database Designing and Normalization and explain the various applications of Database normalization.
Iterative Process for Generating ER Diagram from Unrestricted Requirements
This paper is presenting a Natural Language Processing (NLP) based approach to generate the ERD from requirements in an unrestricted format such as general requirements, user stories or Use Case Specification (UCS).
The Effect of MySQL Workbench in Teaching Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD) to Relational Schema Mapping
The results show that visualization can increase student interest and engagement, and facilitate students connecting the concepts in the two models, and help undergraduate students improve their performance on ERD-relational schema mapping.
