EMMA - A Query Algebra for Enhanced Multimedia Meta Objects

title={EMMA - A Query Algebra for Enhanced Multimedia Meta Objects},
author={Sonja Zillner and Utz Westermann and Werner Winiwarter},
Enhanced Multimedia Meta Objects (EMMOs) are a novel approach to multimedia content modeling, combining media, semantic relationships between those media, as well as functionality on the media, such as rendering, into tradeable knowledge-enriched units of multimedia content. For the processing of EMMOs and the knowledge they contain, suitable querying facilities are required. In this paper, we present EMMA, an expressive query algebra that is adequate and complete with regard to the EMMO model…

EMMA - A Formal Basis for Querying Enhanced Multimedia Meta Objects

EMMA represents a sound and adequate foundation for the realization of powerful EMMO querying facilities and offers a rich set of orthogonal query operators, which are sufficiently expressive to provide access to all aspects of EMMOs and enable efficient query rewriting and optimization.

The Design and Implementation of a Query Algebra of Multimedia Meta Objects

The design and implementation architecture of EMMA is introduced, an expressive query algebra that is adequate with regard to the EMMO model and provides the basis for query rewriting and optimization.

A Novel Approach for Semantics-Enabled Search of Multimedia Documents on the Web

The ontology as well as the analysis serve as basis for implementing a novel search engine for multimedia documents on the web.

Towards an Ontology-Based Distributed Architecture for Paid Content

This work describes Knowledge Content Objects (KCO), that provide expressive semantic descriptions of digital content, based on an ontology of Information Objects, built under the DOLCE, DnS and Plan Ontologies (DDPO).

Modeling Multimedia Data Semantics with MADS

This paper presents the approach to conceptual modeling of multimedia data based on MADS, a spatio-temporal data model with multi-representation support, and provides an example for the case of multimedia meetings.

Trading digital information goods based on semantic technologies

A logical container model for knowledge-intensive digital information goods (knowledge content object - KCO) that directly references formalised semantic descriptions of key information types on information goods, and six logically congruent facet types by which a user can interpret information goods.

Querying Multimedia Presentations Based on Content

An icon-based graphical query language, GVISUAL, that provides iconic representations for these constructs and a user-friendly graphical interface for query specification and an OQL-like language, GOQL (Graph OQL), with similar constructs, that allows textual and more traditional specifications of graph queries.

Three Implementations of SquishQL, a Simple RDF Query Language

A conceptual model for querying RDF data that refines ideas first presented in at the W3C workshop on Query Languages and the design of one possible syntax, derived from [7], that is suitable for application programmers are described.

RAL: An Algebra for Querying RDF

The data model, the operators to manipulate the data, and the application of RAL for query optimization are defined, which includes: extraction operators to retrieve the needed resources from the input RDF model, loop operators to support repetition, and construction operators to build the resulting RDF models.

A multimedia presentation algebra

This paper presents an algebra for querying multimedia presentation databases, and proves a host of equivalence results for queries in this algebra which may be used to build query optimizers for interactive presentation databases.

Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) 2.0

This document specifies the second version of the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL, pronounced "smile"). SMIL 2.0 has the following two design goals: * Define an XML-based language

Rdf vocabulary description language 1.0 : Rdf schema

This specification describes how to use RDF to describe RDF vocabularies and defines other built-in RDF vocabulary initially specified in the RDF Model and Syntax Specification.

CULTOS: Towards A World-Wide Digital Collection of Exchangeable Units of Multimedia Content for Intertextual Studies

This paper proposes and formally defines Enhanced Multimedia Meta Objects (Emmos) as a new means for representing multimedia content and obtains an adequate means for the representation of multimedia-enriched ITTs as the foundation for the worldwide distributed collection of ITTs envisioned by CULTOS.

Experience with a prototype algebraic video system suggests that algebraicVideo can be used to create new video presentations from existing video libraries with query based discovery and algebraic combination of video segments of interest.

Managing Multimedia Semantics

This chapter discusses Semantic Indexing and Retrieval of Images, and the user-Centric approach to Manage Semantics.

Introduction to mpeg-7

This document gives an introductory overview of the MPEG-7 standard, a multimedia content description standard that addresses how humans expect to interact with computer systems, since it develops rich descriptions that reflect those expectations.
