AIM To observe the effect of tenuigenin (TEN), an active component isolated from Yuanzhi, on cholinergic function in rats with β-amyloid peptide and ibotenic acid injection into right nucleus basalis magnocellularis (NBM). METHODS A combined injection of β-AP 1~40 and ibotenic acid into the right NBM was used as a dementia-like rat model. The ability of learning and memory was detected by the step-through test. The activity of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) and the muscarinic receptor density… Expand

TLDR
Improved effects of tenuifolin, extracted from Radix Polygalae (RP), on learning and memory in aged and dysmnesia mice were determined using step-down type passive avoidance test or Y type maze trial. Expand
Tenuigenin treatment decreases secretion of the Alzheimer’s disease amyloid β-protein in cultured cells
TLDR
The data suggest that Tenuigenin may be worthy of future study as an anti-AD drug, and shows that it can inhibit the secretion of A beta in SH-SY5Y APP 695 cells via BACE1 inhibition. Expand
Anxiolytic and sedative-hypnotic activities of polygalasaponins from Polygala tenuifolia in mice
TLDR
It is suggested that polygalasaponin possesses evident anxiolytic and sedative-hypnotic activities and has a relatively safe dose range, which supports the use of Polygala tenuifolia root as an anxioallytic and Sedative- Hypnotic drug in folk medicine. Expand
Senegenin Inhibits Hypoxia/Reoxygenation-Induced Neuronal Apoptosis by Upregulating RhoGDIα
TLDR
Findings indicated that Sen attenuates H/R-induced neuronal apoptosis by upregulating RhoGDIα expression and inhibiting the JNK pathway. Expand
Traditional Chinese Medicine for Senile Dementia
TLDR
It can be concluded that TCM has a potential for complementary and alternative role in treating senile dementia and there was strong clinical support that Radix polygalae is memory improving. Expand
Herbal medicine in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease
TLDR
Chinese herbal medicine appears to have therapeutic potential for Alzheimer’s disease through multi-target and multi-pathway approach at cellular and molecular levels and holistic adjustment of the body at organ system levels. Expand
