Allison…

Environmental impact and mechanisms of the biological clogging of saturated soils and aquifer materials

The biological clogging of natural porous media, often in conjunction with physical or chemical clogging, is encountered under a wide range of conditions. Wastewater disposal, artificial groundwater

Leaching of copper from contaminated soil following the application of EDTA. II. Intact core experiments and model testing

In Part I, we proposed a model for EDTA-facilitated transport of copper, and we tested the robustness of this scheme by reference to experiments with various initial and boundary conditions on a

Microbial Clogging of Saturated Soils and Aquifer Materials: Evaluation of Mathematical Models

Bacterial reductions of the saturated hydraulic conductivity of natural porous media appear to be caused by a wide range of mechanisms, few of which have been carefully studied. Nevertheless, a

Simulation of in-situ bioremediation of phenol contaminated sandy aquifers I. Effect of sand sizes

Laboratory scale porous media biofilm reactors were used to evaluate the effect of biofilm thickness on media porosity and permeability. Media tested consisted of three different sizes of sand (0.4,

Laboratory Measurement of Hydraulic Conductivity of Saturated Soil

The rate of movement of water through soil is of considerable importance in many aspects of agricultural and urban life. The entry of water into soil, the movement of water to plant roots, the flow

Process, performance, and pollution potential: A review of septic tank–soil absorption systems

On-site wastewater treatment and dispersal systems (OWTS) are used in non-sewered populated areas in Australia to treat and dispose of household wastewater. The most common OWTS in Australia is the

Utilizing the decomposition of organic residues to increase infiltration rates in water spreading

Decomposition rates were determined for several plant residues which were incubated under controlled conditions in the absence of soil. Three of these plant residues, having a range in decomposition

REDOX EFFECT ON THE HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY OF CLAY LINER

Microbial activities can be enhanced by organic rich leachate occurring in solid waste landfills, which possesses the potential to alter the barrier capacity of clay liners. Flexible-wall hydraulic
