Dyslipidemia is major problem among population those have sedentary life style as well as in diabetics. Bougainvillea spectabilis is most commonly found in India as an ornamental plant and has got anti-diabetic action due to presence of one insulin mimicking agent D-pinitol (3-O-methyl-chiroinositol). The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effect of alcoholic extract of leaves of Bougainvillea spectabilis (AEBSL) on serum lipid profile in albino rats fed with high fat diet…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Lycopene Ameliorates Atherogenic Cardiovascular Risk inStreptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Hyperlipidaemia in Wistar Rats

It can be concluded that lycopene ameliorated atherogenic diabetic-inducd dyslipidaemia, hence may have cardio-protective effects due to their high antioxidant activity.

Effect of Aqueous Seed Extract of Terminalia catappa Linn on Some Biochemical Parameters in Alloxan-induced Diabetic Rats

The results from this study suggested that the aqueous seed extract of Terminalia catappa Linn possesses anti-diabetic activity and could be used for the management of diabetes and other metabolic derangement associated with it.

Phytochemistry and Reproductive Activities of Male Albino Rats Treated with Crude Leaf Extract of Great Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spectabilis)

There is a dire need to always apply caution on the use of B. spectabilis in combating diseases considering the possible adverse effects that it could pose on spermatogenic pathways.

A STUDY OF THE ANTIHYPERLIPIDAEMIC AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACTS OF FRUIT PULP OF CASSIA FISTULA IN ALBINO RATS

The present study was designed to evaluate the antihyperlipidaemic and antioxidant activities of fruit pulp of Cassia fistula. Aqueous extract was obtained by infusion method and acute oral toxicity

ANTIDYSLIPIDEMIC ACTIVITY OF KATUK LEAVES SAPONINS FRACTION (SAUROPUS ANDROGYNUS (L.) MERR) IN RATS INDUCED WITH FAT-RICH DIET

Katuk leaves saponins fraction can become an anti dyslipidemic and also prevent the cardiovascular disorder in Wistar male rats.

It is suggested that the administration of A. catechu (L.f) Willd exhibited antidiabetic activity in STZ‑induced diabetic rats and could be considered for further evaluation in drug development.

A Study of the Antihyperlipidaemic and Antioxidant Activities of Aqueous Extract of Fruit Pulp of Cassia Fistula in Albino Rats

The present study was designed to evaluate the antihyperlipidaemic and antioxidant activities of aqueous extract of fruit pulp of Cassia fistula. Aqueous extract was prepared by infusion method and

Protective Effect of Tulbaghia violacea Harv. on Aortic Pathology, Tissue Antioxidant Enzymes and Liver Damage in Diet-Induced Atherosclerotic Rats

The methanolic extract of TVR could protect against the early onset of atherosclerosis, and the observed activities of the extracts compared favorably with standard drug atorvastatin.

Effects of Selected Antioxidants on Atherosclerosis in Hyperlipidemic Wistar Rats

The study showed significant effect in the use of EDTA, Vitamin C and Vitamin E in the treatment of atherosclerosis in rats which could be due to their antioxidant and anti-hyperlipidemic properties, and therefore the combinations EDta, vitamin C and vitamin E appear greatly protective against Atherosclerosis.

Phytochemical Studies of Different Fractions of Galega officinalis Extract and Their Effects on Some Biochemical Parameters in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats

Galega officinalis Linn (Goat’s rue) is popularly called sakpani in Hausa speaking part of Nigeria. The Plant belongs to the family Leguminoseae. G. officinalis is chiefly used as an antidiabetic

Anti-diabetic properties of the aqueous leaf extract of Bougainvillea glabra (glory of the garden) on alloxan-induced diabetic rats.

The observations from this study show that Bougainvillea glabra has antidiabetic effect and beneficial effects on blood lipid profile, thus justifying the use of the plant by traditional medicine practitioners for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Antihyperlipidemic effect of D‐pinitol on streptozotocin‐induced diabetic wistar rats

The present study clearly showed the antihyperlipidemic effect of D‐pinitol in STZ‐induced type II diabetic rats.

Effect of ethanolic extract of Bougainvillea spectabilis leaves on haematological and serum lipid variables in rats

The results of this study suggest that the extract of Bougainvillea spectabilis leaves may have beneficial effect on serum cholesterol concentration reduction, although it possibly possesses the potential of adversely affecting haematological indices.

Effects of Ethanolic Extract of Bougainvillea spectabilis Leaves on Some Liver and Kidney Function Indices in Rats

Effects of repeated administration of varying concentrations of the ethanolic extract of Bougainvillea spectabilis leaves on some hepatic and renal function indices were examined in albino rats

Antioxidant potential of the Syzygium aromaticum (Gaertn.) Linn. (Cloves) in rats fed with high fat diet

The results substantiate the use of moderate quantity of cloves in diet as an antioxidant in offering protection against hyperlipidemia and show enhanced activities on co-administration of cloves.

Evaluation of Anti-fertility Potential of Aqueous Extract of Bougainvillea spectabilis Leaves in Swiss Albino Mice.

The effect of Bougainvillea spectabilis on fertility of male and female mice was evaluated and a reduction in the size of seminiferous tubules along with the thickness of germinal epithelial cells and interstitial cells of leydig showedhypertrophy, while the lumen of the tubules was found to be devoid of sperms.

Effect of aqueous extract of Bulbine natalensis Baker stem on haematological and serum lipid profile of male Wistar rats.

The results showed that aqueous extract of B. natalensis stem exhibited localized systemic toxicity mainly on the white blood cell count and related indices and the alterations in the serum lipid profile may predispose the animals to atherosclerosis especially when consumed repeatedly for two weeks.

Insulin‐like effect of pinitol

The data support the view that D‐pinitol can exert an insulin‐like effect to improve glycaemic control in hypoinsulinaemic STZ‐diabetic mice.

Hypolipidemic activity of Eclipta prostrata (L.) L. leaf extract in atherogenic diet induced hyperlipidemic rats.

In atherogenic diet induced hyperlipidemic model, the rats receiving treatment with the aqueous extract of the leaves of E. prostrata showed significant reduction in total cholesterol, triglyceride,
