An electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) embedded multiple-mode resonator (MMR) is proposed to constitute an upper-stopband-improved and size-miniaturized ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF). This EBG-embedded MMR is studied to relocate its first three resonant modes within the 3.1-10.6GHz passband, whereas placing its 4th resonant mode at the coupling transmission zero of interdigital coupled-lines that drive this MMR at two sides.
