  author={Denis Y. Rogozin and Vladimir V. Zykov and M. O. Tarnovskii},
According to the results of seasonal monitoring, in 2007–2013 purple sulfur bacteria morphologically similar to Thiocapsa sp. Shira_1 (AJ633676 in EMBL/GenBank) predominated in the anoxygenic phototrophic community of the water column of the meromictic Lake Shira (Khakassia, Siberia). No pronounced seasonal periodicity in the total cell number in the water column was revealed during the period of observation. In some years cell number during the period when the lake was covered with ice was…
Spatiotemporal Changes in the Bacterial Community of the Meromictic Lake Uchum, Siberia.
Insight is provided into the relationships between changes in bacterial community and environmental features in Lake Uchum and there was a successional shift in sulfate-reducing bacteria and sulfur-oxidizing bacteria in the anoxic zone across the seasons.
Meromixis and Seasonal Dynamics of Vertical Structure of Lake Uchum (South Siberia)
The seasonal dynamics of the vertical structure of small saline Lake Uchum, located in the steppe arid zone of the south of Siberia (Krasnoyarsk krai), has been studied in detail for the first time.
Change in the circulation regime in the stratified saline Lake Shira (Siberia, Republic of Khakassia)
The in-situ data on the vertical structure and stability of the vertical stratification of saline Lake Shira over the past decade (2007–2015) are analyzed. Simplified mathematical models have shown

Seasonal changes in the structure of the anoxygenic photosynthetic bacterial community in Lake Shunet, Khakassia
According to the results of the phylogenetic analysis of pure cultures of the isolated phototrophic bacteria, green sulfur bacteria were close to Prosthecochloris vibrioformis, purple sulfuracteria, to Thiocapsa and Halochromatium species, and purple nonsulfur bacteria, to Rhodovulum euryhalinum and Pinkicyclus mahoneyensis.
Ecology of purple sulfur bacteria in the highly stratified meromictic Lake Shunet (Siberia, Khakassia) in 2002–2009
This work deals with the analysis of many years’ seasonal dynamics of the biomass of purple sulfur bacteria and the physicochemical conditions of their environment in Lake Shunet, unraveling the causes of their anomalous development in the chemocline of this lake, as well as the comparative analysis of such type of ecosystems.
Effect of winter conditions on distributions of anoxic phototrophic bacteria in two meromictic lakes in Siberia, Russia
The year-to-year variations of vertical distribution and biomass of anoxic phototrophic bacteria were studied during ice periods 2003–2005 and 2007–2008 in meromictic lakes Shira and Shunet (Southern
Anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial community of Lake Shira (Khakassia)
The anoxygenic phototrophic bacterial community of the brackish meromictic Lake Shira (Khakassia) was investigated in August 2001, July 2002, and February–March 2003, and the prevailing microorganisms were purple sulfur bacteria similar to Lamprocystis purpurea in morphology and pigment composition.
Microbial community of the chemocline of the meromictic Lake Shunet (Khakassia, Russia) during summer stratification
It was demonstrated that the application of universal bacterial primers for DGGE resulted in the same qualitative distributional pattern of predominant species as microscopic studies.
Photosynthetic activity and population dynamics of Amoebobacter purpureus in a meromictic saline lake
A dense population of the purple sulfur bacterium Amoebobacter purpureus in the chemocline of meromictic Mahoney Lake (British Columbia, Canada) underwent consistent changes in biomass over a two
Carotenoids of phototrophic organisms in bottom sediments of meromictic Lake Shira (Siberia, Russia) as an indicator of past stratification
The profile and quantita tive composition of the pigments in the bottom sediments may serve as indicators of the species com position of the biomass and the amount of pho totrophic organism production in the corresponding periods of the history of the given water body.
Some generalizations based on stratification and vertical mixing in meromictic Lake Shira, Russia, in the period 2002–2009
In a brackish, temperate, 24-m-deep Lake Shira, the profiles of salinity, temperature, oxygen and sulfide concentrations were measured on a seasonal basis from 2002 to 2009. The lake was shown to be
A comparison of phototrophic bacteria in two adjacent saline meromictic lakes
Differences in light quantity, light quality, temperature, pH and Lamprocystis' capacity for photoorganoheterotrophic growth explain why different genera of phototrophic bacteria are found within the two lakes in Saskatchewan.
