Abstract The energy partitioning (d 3 Π g )C 2 and H atom products of the reaction between (2 3 S)He* and acetylene in a diffusion flame are reported. The results support the conclusion that the formation of (d 3 Π g )C 2 proceeds without formation of a stable intermediate and occurs by collisional energy exchange between (2 3 S)He* and acetylene in which the acetylene is promoted to a bent, elongated, electronically excited transition state followed by either a simultaneous or a rapid… CONTINUE READING
