The effects of impurities in spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains are recently experiencing a renewed interest due to experimental realizations in solid state systems and ultra-cold gases. The impurities effectively cut the chains into finite segments with a discrete spectrum and characteristic correlations, which have a distinct effect on the dynamic structure factor. Using bosonization and the numerical Density Matrix Renormalization Group we provide detailed quantitative predictions for the momentum…

UNIVERSAL CROSSOVER BEHAVIOR OF A MAGNETIC IMPURITY AND CONSEQUENCES FOR DOPING IN SPIN-1/2 CHAINS

The results provide a simple application of a general theory of conformally invariant boundary conditions which has been applied to a wide variety of quantum impurity problems in condensed matter and particle physics, and exhibit a universal dependence on the boundary.

NMR response in quasi–one-dimensional spin- antiferromagnets

Non-magnetic impurities break a quantum spin chain into finite segments and induce Friedel-like oscillations in the local susceptibility near the edges. The signature of these oscillations has been

Boundary susceptibility in the spin-1/2 chain: Curie-like behavior without magnetic impurities.

Dynamical spin structure factor for the anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain.

The longitudinal spin structure factor for the XXZ-chain at small wave vector q is obtained using Bethe ansatz, field theory methods, and the density matrix renormalization group and it is demonstrated that the integrability of the model directly affects the line shape.
