The effects of impurities in spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains are recently experiencing a renewed interest due to experimental realizations in solid state systems and ultra-cold gases. The impurities effectively cut the chains into finite segments with a discrete spectrum and characteristic correlations, which have a distinct effect on the dynamic structure factor. Using bosonization and the numerical Density Matrix Renormalization Group we provide detailed quantitative predictions for the momentum…

LT-scaling in depleted quantum spin ladders
Using a combination of neutron scattering, calorimetry, QuantumMonte Carlo (QMC) simulations and analytic results we uncover confinement effects in depleted, partially magnetized quantum spin
Open XXZ chain and boundary modes at zero temperature
We study the open XXZ spin chain in the anti-ferromagnetic regime and for generic longitudinal magnetic fields at the two boundaries. We discuss the ground state via the Bethe ansatz and we show
Nonequilibrium Floquet Steady States of Time-Periodic Driven Luttinger Liquids.
By developing a time-periodic operator algebra, this work is able to solve and analyze the complete set of nonequilibrium steady states in terms of a Floquet-Bogoliubov ansatz and known analytic functions.

We consider a magnetic impurity in the antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 chain which is equivalent to the two-channel Kondo problem in terms of the field theoretical description. Using a modification of the
Impurities in S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains: Consequences for neutron scattering and knight shift.
The results provide a simple application of a general theory of conformally invariant boundary conditions which has been applied to a wide variety of quantum impurity problems in condensed matter and particle physics, and exhibit a universal dependence on the boundary.
Boundary susceptibility in the spin-1/2 chain: Curie-like behavior without magnetic impurities.
It is established that in the isotropic case the impurity susceptibility exhibits a Curie-like divergent behavior as the temperature decreases, even in the absence of magnetic impurities.
Thermodynamics of impurities in the anisotropic Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain
The thermodynamics of finite open antiferromagnetic XXZ chains is studied using field theory, Bethe ansatz and quantum Monte Carlo methods. For the susceptibility a parameter-free result as a
Dynamical structure factor at small q for the XXZ spin-1/2 chain
We combine Bethe ansatz and field theory methods to study the longitudinal dynamical structure factor Szz(q,ω) for the anisotropic spin-1/2 chain in the gapless regime. Using bosonization, we derive
Dynamical spin structure factor for the anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain.
The longitudinal spin structure factor for the XXZ-chain at small wave vector q is obtained using Bethe ansatz, field theory methods, and the density matrix renormalization group and it is demonstrated that the integrability of the model directly affects the line shape.
Computation of dynamical correlation functions of Heisenberg chains: the gapless anisotropic regime
We compute all dynamical spin–spin correlation functions for the spin-1/2 XXZ anisotropic Heisenberg model in the gapless antiferromagnetic regime at zero temperature, using numerical sums of exact
Exact edge singularities and dynamical correlations in spin-1/2 chains.
Exact formulas for the singularities of the dynamical structure factor, Szz(q,omega), of the S=1/2 xxz spin chain at all q and any anisotropy and magnetic field in the critical regime are derived,
NMR response in quasi?one-dimensional spin-\chem{\frac{1}{2}} antiferromagnets
Non-magnetic impurities break a quantum spin chain into finite segments and induce Friedel-like oscillations in the local susceptibility near the edges. The signature of these oscillations has been
Spin- and charge-density oscillations in spin chains and quantum wires
We analyze the spin- and charge-density oscillations near impurities in spin chains and quantum wires. These so-called Friedel oscillations give detailed information about the impurity and also about
