Hybrid mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are becoming more prevalent in military deployments. The hybrid MANET, a multihop wireless network with gateways providing connectivity to distant networks, facilitates some important goals such as providing situational awareness to higher headquarters about local operations and providing appropriate information availability extended to the lowest possible level.
