Dynamic spectrum access is a promising approach to alleviat e the spectrum scarcity wireless communications faces today. In short, it aims at reusing sparse ly occupied frequency bands while causing no (or insignificant) interference to the actual licensees. Th is article focuses on applying this concept in the time domain by exploiting idle durations between bursty tra nsmissions of multiaccess communication channels, addressing WLAN as an example of practical import ance.
