Summary Results of an experimental research program dealing with motorcycle and scooter tires are presented. Experimental tests were carried out by means of a rotating disk test machine, which is particularly suited to test tires in the presence of large camber angles. First, the capabilities of the rotating disk machine are discussed and results are compared with the ones obtained by means of other test machines. Then the properties of several motorcycle and scooter tires are presented and… Expand
Identification of the characteristics of motorcycle and scooter tyres in the presence of large variations in inflation pressure
Stability and safety of road vehicles are largely affected by tyre properties. Single-track vehicles are characterised by weakly damped modes of vibration (weave and wobble) and therefore thisExpand
Identification of the Mechanical Properties of Tires for Wheelchair Simulation
The development of high performance wheelchairs and wheelchair simulators requires dynamic models taking into account the properties of tires. In this paper the properties of two wheelchair tires areExpand
A Motorcycle Tire Model for Dynamic Simulations: Theoretical and Experimental Aspects
This paper describes a model for motorcycle tires based on a physical interpretation of experimental data. In this model the real shape of the tire carcass is accurately described and itsExpand
On the Braking Behavior of Motorcycles
This work presents a study on the braking style and its implications on motorcycle stability. First, a simplified motorcycle model is used for highlighting basic phenomena which occur during brakingExpand
Investigation of Motorcycle Steering Torque Components
When driving along a circular path, the rider controls a motorcycle mainly by the steering torque. This work addresses an in‐depth analysis of the steady state cornering and in particular theExpand
Analysis of racing motorcycle performance with additional considerations for the Mozzi axis
The aim of this research is to develop techniques for the analysis of data measured in motorcycle races. This analysis should highlight the most difficult parts of the circuits, the rider's skill andExpand
A Modal Approach for the Study of the Transient Behavior of Motorcycle and Scooter Tires
Stability of two-wheeled vehicles is influenced by the transient properties of tires, which are described in terms of the relaxation length, which is the distance that the vehicle travels before tireExpand
Experimental and numerical investigation on the motorcycle front frame flexibility and its effect on stability
Abstract It is well known that front fork flexibility may have a significant effect on motorcycle stability. This work addresses the problem of developing lumped element models of the front fork fromExpand
The relation between contact patch geometry and the mechanical properties of motorcycle tyres
The mechanical properties of motorcycle and scooter tyres have a large influence on the handling and stability of these vehicles. When a two-wheeled vehicle moves along a curvilinear path, there areExpand
The effect of the inflation pressure of tyres on motorcycle weave stability: experiments and simulation
ABSTRACT Increasing the stability of a motorcycle requires an understanding of the optimal conditions of the tyre. The inflation pressure is one of the main parameters that directly affects the tyreExpand
