This paper discusses several alternatives, based on graph search, to calculate UAV trajectories that avoid regions with dangerous weather effects and with the least deviation from the shortest trajectory. It is also explained how to adapt graph search algorithms to be used for 3D trajectories with UAVs, and which design considerations should be taken into account (for example the discretization of the airspace). Also, an extension of the Lazy Theta ∗  algorithm is presented; a dynamic algorithm…

Reactive Planning-Driven Approach to Online UAVs Mission Rerouting and Rescheduling

TLDR
The proposed model allows for predictive and reactive delivery mission planning in terms of the constraint satisfaction problem and showed the usefulness of the proposed approach in DSS-based contingency planning of the UAVs’ mission performed in a dynamic environment.

Efficient Lazy Theta* Path Planning over a Sparse Grid to Explore Large 3D Volumes with a Multirotor UAV

TLDR
The Lazy Theta* path-planning algorithm is revisited and adapted to generate paths fast enough to be used in real time and outdoors in large 3D scenarios, and the performance shows over 90 percent decrease in overall path generation computation time.

Improved 3D Interpolation-Based Path Planning for a Fixed-Wing Unmanned Aircraft

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Route Planning in the Presence of a Threat Environment Based on a Virtual Globe Platform

TLDR
A new planning space for the virtual globe and the planner is proposed and a common threat model is constructed for threats including a no-fly zone, hazardous weather, radar coverage area, missile killing zone and dynamic threats.

PATH PLANNING TECHNIQUE TO ACHIEVE A DYNAMIC TARGET POINT

In this paper a method has been proposed to identify the lowest cost path to reach a destination point from a source point. However, unlike most of the colloquial graph traversal problems, here the

Path Planning for Multi-UAV Formation

TLDR
An efficient and feasible algorithm for the path planning problem of the multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (multi-UAVs) formation in a known and realistic environment and has a good path planning ability for the single UAV and the all UAVs formation.

Path Planning Strategies for UAVS in 3D Environments

TLDR
The application of basic Theta* to tri-dimensional path planning will be presented and the algorithm is applied to orographic obstacles and in urban environments, to evaluate the solution for different kinds of obstacles.

Turn-Constrained Route Planning for Avoiding Hazardous Weather

TLDR
The solution approach is based on searching in an appropriate discretization of a geometric model of the airspace using a dynamic programming algorithm for optimal paths having a bounded number of turns.

Aircraft routing in the presence of hazardous weather

TLDR
The FBRP is examined as a tool for solving routing problems, as a method for resolving airspace conflicts, and as a capacity estimation tool, and is shown to be practical and is compared with historical flight data and with alternative methods.

3D Interpolation-Based Path Planning for a Fixed-WingUnmanned Aircraft

TLDR
A heuristic incremental interpolation-based search algorithm with ecient replanning capabilities is applied to the path planning problem for a fixed-wing aircraft operating in a natural environment to plan and re-plan long flight paths and results show that the planner produces intuitive, short paths and is capable of exploiting previous planning eorts, when unknown obstacles are encountered.

A heuristic incremental interpolation-based search algorithm with efficient replanning capabilities is applied to the path planning problem for a fixed-wing aircraft operating in a natural environment to plan and re-plan long flight paths.

Theta*: Any-Angle Path Planning on Grids

TLDR
This work presents Theta*, a variant of A*, that propagates informati on along grid edges without constraining the paths to grid edges, and shows experimentally that Theta* finds shorter and more realistic looking paths than either of these existing techniques.

Lazy Theta*: Any-Angle Path Planning and Path Length Analysis in 3D

TLDR
Lazy Theta*, a variant of Theta* which uses lazy evaluation to perform only one line-of-sight check per expanded vertex (but with slightly more expanded vertices), is introduced.
