  • Adults and children in the United States experience two to six colds per year (1, 2). The morbidity and loss of working hours due to the common cold are substantial (1-3), and treatment remains elusive. Ten controlled trials of treatment of the common cold with zinc lozenges have been published (4-13). Five studies reported that zinc lozenges reduced the duration of cold symptoms (4-8).
