Abstract In these lectures we discuss various aspects of gauge theories with extended N = 2 and N = 4 supersym-metry that are at the basis of recently found exact results. These results include the exact calculation of the low energy effective action for the light degrees of freedom in the N = 2 super Yang-Mills theory and the conjecture, supported by some checks, that the N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory is dual in the sense of Montonen-Olive.
Duality in supersymmetric $N=2,4$ gauge theories
In these lectures we present a detailed description of various aspects of gauge theories with extended N=2 and N=4 supersymmetry that are at the basis of recently found exact results. These resultsExpand
Duality in N=2, N=4 supersymmetric gauge theories
In these lectures we present a detailed description of various aspects of gauge theories with extended N = 2 and N = 4 supersymmetry that are at the basis of recently found exact results. TheseExpand
N=2 Supersymmetric Theories, Dyonic Charges and Instantons
In the first part of this thesis we give an introduction to electric-magnetic duality and N=2 supersymmetry. After that we describe type II string theory instantons in the supergravity approximation.Expand
Toy model for breaking super gauge theories at the effective Lagrangian level
We propose a toy model to illustrate how the effective Lagrangian for super QCD might go over to the one for ordinary QCD by a mechanism whereby the gluinos and squarks in the fundamental theoryExpand
SEIBERG-WITTEN THEORY
In this paper we are going to give a short introduction to Seiberg-Witten duality in N=2 Super-Yang-Mills theory without matter elds and for SU(2) gauge group. The material is heavily drawn fromExpand
Duality and supersymmetric quantum mechanics
Given a SUSY potential (x) in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, a pair of potentials V±(x) can be constructed to describe the bosonic and fermionic sectors of the theory. We apply a form ofExpand
Analytic tools to brane technology in N=2 gauge theories with matter
Exact solutions to the low-energy effective action (LEEA) of the four-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric gauge field theories are known to be obtained either by quantum field theory methods fromExpand
Langevin approach for Abelian topological gauge theory
An Abelian topological action is constructed from the quantization of Seiberg–Witten monopole equations as “Langevin equations.” The starting point is an analogous action to the Labastida–Pernici’sExpand
Gauge Formulation for Two Potential Theory of Dyons
Dual electrodynamics and corresponding Maxwell’s equations (in the presence of monopole only) are revisited from the symmetry of duality and gauge invariance. Accordingly, the manifestly covariant,Expand
Anomaly induced QCD potential and Quark Decoupling
Abstract We explore the anomaly induced effective QCD meson potential in the framework of the effective Lagrangian approach. We suggest a decoupling procedure, when a flavored quark becomes massive,Expand

Conformal Invariance in N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory
Abstract It is shown, by consideration of anomaly multiplets, that the maximally extended supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory is conformally invariant, assuming that the theory is supersymmetric andExpand
The ultra-violet finiteness of the N=4 Yang-Mills theory☆
Abstract The N =4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills gauge theory was formulated by us in a previous paper in the light-cone gauge. It is described by a scalar complex superfield whose components are theExpand
A class of finite four-dimensional supersymmetric field theories
Abstract A class of N = 2 supersymmetric models consisting of N = 2 Yang-Mills coupled to N = 2 matter is shown to be finite to all orders of perturbation theory. For this to hold, the representationExpand
Duality in N = 2 SUSY SU(2) Yang-Mills Theory: A Pedagogical Introduction
I review in considerable detail and in a hopefully pedagogical way the work of Seiberg and Witten on N = 2 supersymmetric SU(2) gauge theory without extra matter. This presentation basically followsExpand
The relaxed hypermultiplet: An unconstrained N = 2 superfield theory
Abstract We present an off-shell version of the hypermultiplet, without a central charge or gauge antisymmetric tensors. We give the unconstrained superfield form of the action and its coupling to NExpand
The Anomaly Term in the $N=2$ Supersymmetric Gauge Theory
Abstract The Schwinger slowly varying field approximation is used to compute the terms in the effective lagrangian that reproduce the anomalies of the underlying theory. This method has been appliedExpand
Evidence for S-duality in N = 4 supersymmetric gauge theory
Abstract Using D-brane techniques, we compute the spectrum of stable BPS states in N = 4 supersymmetric gauge theory, and find it is consistent with Montonen-Olive duality.
Topological Charges for N=4 Supersymmetric Gauge Theories and Monopoles of Spin 1
The central charges in the supersymmetry algebra of the N = 4 supersymmetry gauge theory are obtained. When spontaneous symmetry breaking is imposed it is shown that the spins of the topologicalExpand
Soliton energies in supersymmetric theories
Abstract We show that in two-dimensional supersymmetric theories, the energies of solitons do receive non-zero but finite quantum corrections. This is in contrast to the earlier work of D'Adda and DiExpand
