This paper presents a dual-purpose offline LED driver with illumination control and visible light communications (VLC). LEDs, due to their nonlinear I-V characteristics, are driven by constant current sources. The proposed dual-purpose offline LED driver realizes a constant current source by a buck converter without a capacitor using average current mode control.
