RATIONALE The fate of drug delivery systems (DDSs) in vivo is a widely discussed question. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is an important tool to localize proteins and small compounds in many different tissues.
