Time series of simulated recharge, groundwater heads and streamflow were obtained for temperate humid and semiarid climate regions and for quickly and slowly-responding catchments. These were analysed to investigate the propagation of drought through the subsurface, i.e. the change in characteristics (onset, duration and severity) from a meteorological drought to a hydrological drought. In two selected contrasting climate regions (Spain and The Netherlands) the propagation of recharge droughts…

On the propagation of drought : how climate and catchment characteristics influence hydrological drought development and recovery

Drought is a severe natural disaster resulting in high economic loss and huge ecological and societal impacts. In this thesis drought is defined as a period of below-normal water availability in

Drought propagation in the hydrological cycle in a semiarid region: a case study in the Bilate catchment, Ethiopia

Drought is a temporal decrease in water availability and occurs in all climatic regions. Droughts propagate through the hydrological cycle, e.g., meteorological drought propagates to groundwater

Propagation of Meteorological to Hydrological Droughts in India

Drought is among the costliest natural disasters that affect the economy, food and water security, and socioeconomic well‐being of about 1.4 billion people in India. Despite the profound implications

Drought propagation and its impact on groundwater hydrology of wetlands

Abstract. Drought can be described as a temporary decrease in water availability over a significant period and affects both surface and groundwater resources. Droughts propagate through the

Investigation of drought propagation in South Korea using drought index and conditional probability

Meteorological drought commonly originates from precipitation deficit and is then propagated to agricultural and hydrological droughts. Since drought impacts are more directly related to agricultural

Drought propagation and its impact on groundwater hydrology of wetlands: a case study on the Doode Bemde nature reserve (Belgium)

Abstract. Drought can be described as a temporary decrease in water availability over a significant period that affects both surface and groundwater resources. Droughts propagate through the

Hydrological drought explained

Drought is a complex natural hazard that impacts ecosystems and society in many ways. Many of these impacts are associated with hydrological drought (drought in rivers, lakes, and groundwater). It

Propagation of drought through groundwater—a new approach using linear reservoir theory

The effect of drought on groundwater heads and discharge is often complex and poorly understood. Therefore the propagation of a drought from groundwater recharge to discharge and the influence of

Hydrological drought : processes and estimation methods for streamflow and groundwater

Hydrological drought is a textbook for university students, practising hydrologists and researchers. The main scope of this book is to provide the reader with a comprehensive review of processes and
