Drought is a climatic phenomenon that can occur periodically in all climatic zones, but occurs with greater frequency in tropical and subtropical regions, causing physiological damage to plants in ecosystems and agroecosystems. Due to climate changes, more frequent and prolonged drought events are expected in different parts of the world, leading to weaker crop yields and, in more severe cases, food shortages.
