A bstractWe study the dynamical evolution of strongly coupled field theories, initially in thermal equilibrium, under the influence of an external driving force. We model the field theory holographically using classical gravitational dynamics in an asymptotically AdS spacetime. The system is driven by a source for a (composite) scalar operator. We focus on a scenario where the external source is periodic in time and chart out the response of several observables. We find an interesting phase…

Gravitational wave driving of a gapped holographic system

A bstractThis work addresses the response of a holographic conformal field theory to a homogeneous gravitational periodic driving. The dual geometry is the AdS-soliton, which models a strongly

Gravitational wave driving of a gapped holographic system

This work addresses the response of a holographic conformal field theory to a homogeneous gravitational periodic driving. The dual geometry is the AdS-soliton, which models a strongly coupled quantum

Holographic quenches towards a Lifshitz point

A bstractWe use the holographic duality to study quantum quenches of a strongly coupled CFT that drive the theory towards a non-relativistic fixed point with Lifshitz scaling. We consider the case of

Holographic quenches towards a Lifshitz point

We use the holographic duality to study quantum quenches of a strongly coupled CFT that drive the theory towards a non-relativistic fixed point with Lifshitz scaling. We consider the case of a

Dynamics of holographic entanglement entropy following a local quench

A bstractWe discuss the behaviour of holographic entanglement entropy following a local quench in 2+1 dimensional strongly coupled CFTs. The entanglement generated by the quench propagates along an

Holographic quenches in a confined phase

We investigate quenches of holographic theories in a confined phase, where the energy injected is insufficient to reach the deconfined phase. In such quenches, thermalization is not associated with

Floquet superconductor in holography

We study nonequilibrium steady states in a holographic superconductor under time periodic driving by an external rotating electric field. We obtain the dynamical phase diagram. Superconducting phase

Floquet scalar dynamics in global AdS

A bstractWe study periodically driven scalar fields and the resulting geometries with global AdS asymptotics. These solutions describe the strongly coupled dynamics of dual finite-size quantum

Non-equilibrium aspects of the holographic duality

This thesis is devoted to study far-from-equilibrium aspects of quantum systems at strong coupling using the holographic duality as a tool. The duality, originated from string theory and further

Linear response of entanglement entropy from holography

A bstractFor time-independent excited states in conformal field theories, the entanglement entropy of small subsystems satisfies a ‘first law’-like relation, in which the change in entanglement is

Three distinct regimes of behavior are found that are related to the spectrum of black hole quasinormal modes that correspond to damped oscillations of the order parameter and to overdamped approaches to the superfluid and normal states.
