Doxorubicin (DOX) is an anticancer anthracycline that presents a dose-dependent and cumulative cardiotoxicity as one of the most serious side effects. Several hypotheses have been advanced to explain DOX cardiac side effects, which culminate in the development of life-threatening cardiomyopathy.
