We consider a short rollercoaster cosmology based on two stages of monodromy inflation separated by a stage of matter domination, generated after the early inflaton falls out of slow roll. If the first stage is controlled by a flat potential, V ∼ φ with p < 1 and lasts N ∼ 30 − 40 efolds, the scalar and tensor perturbations at the largest scales will fit the CMB perfectly, and produce relic gravity waves with 0.02 < ∼ r < ∼ 0.06, which can be tested by LiteBIRD and CMB-S4 experiments. If in… Expand

Monodromy in the CMB: Gravity Waves and String Inflation
We present a simple mechanism for obtaining large-field inflation, and hence a gravitational wave signature, from string theory compactified on twisted tori. For nil manifolds, we obtain a leadingExpand
Rolling axions during inflation: perturbativity and signatures
The motion of a pseudo-scalar field $X$ during inflation naturally induces a significant amplification of the gauge fields to which it is coupled. The amplified gauge fields can source characteristicExpand
Gauge field production in supergravity inflation: Local non-Gaussianity and primordial black holes
When inflation is driven by a pseudoscalar field χ coupled to vectors as α4χFF˜, this coupling may lead to a copious production of gauge quanta, which in turns induces non-Gaussian andExpand
The powers of monodromy
A bstractFlux couplings to string theory axions yield super-Planckian field ranges along which the axion potential energy grows. At the same time, other aspects of the physics remain essentiallyExpand
An ignoble approach to large field inflation
We study an inflationary model developed by Kaloper and Sorbo, in which the inflaton is an axion with a sub-Planckian decay constant, whose potential is generated by mixing with a topological 4-formExpand
Primordial tensor perturbation in double inflationary scenario with a break
We study the primordial tensor perturbation produced from the double inflationary scenario with an intermediate break stage. Because of the transitions, the power spectrum deviates from the vacuumExpand
Gravity Waves and Linear Inflation from Axion Monodromy
Wrapped branes in string compactifications introduce a monodromy that extends the field range of individual closed-string axions to beyond the Planck scale. Furthermore, approximate shift symmetriesExpand
Axion monodromy and the weak gravity conjecture
A bstractAxions with broken discrete shift symmetry (axion monodromy) have recently played a central role both in the discussion of inflation and the ‘relaxion’ approach to the hierarchy problem. WeExpand
Natural chaotic inflation and ultraviolet sensitivity
If the recent measurement of B-mode polarization by BICEP2 is due to primordial gravitational waves, it implies that inflation was driven by energy densities at the GUT scale $M_{GUT} \sim 2\timesExpand
Inflationary universe: A possible solution to the horizon and flatness problems
The standard model of hot big-bang cosmology requires initial conditions which are problematic in two ways: (1) The early universe is assumed to be highly homogeneous, in spite of the fact thatExpand
