An hydrodynamic code coupled with a "PUFF-type" equation of state has been set up to investigate the thermomechanical behaviour of an aluminium alloy irradiated by a 1 MeV electron beam. The absorbed flux can reach 3500 J/cm2 with an exponential damping along 1 mm dep;th. A weaker flux .is produced with 1 MeV protons whose the stopping range is 10 pm for a 8000 J/g dose.
