Echocardiography is frequently required in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) to exclude underlying heart disease. In the present investigation the authors evaluated 56 patients with paroxysmal AF (PAF) (27 men, 29 women, mean age 54+/-11.3 years) in whom lone AF was suspected on clinical grounds.
