In applying the pole assignment to tuning the PID controllers the usual presence of delay in the control loop brings about an infinite order character of the system dynamics, i.e. an infinite spectrum of poles. Therefore any pole placement can result in the desired tuning of the control loop only if the prescribed and placed poles really become the dominant poles of the control loop dynamics.
