OBJECTIVES To determine whether inpatient palliative consultation services improve outcomes of care. DESIGN Retrospective telephone surveys conducted with family members of veterans who received inpatient or outpatient care from a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facility in the last month of life.
