The cag pathogenicity island (cagPAI) has been reported to be the major virulence determinant in Helicobacter pylori-related diseases. In the present study, the diversity of the cagA gene and the integrity of the cagPAI in 158 H. pylori strains from Varanasi (North India) and Hyderabad (South India) were studied by amplifying the cagA gene (approximately 3.5 kb), followed by PCR-RFLP analysis. The results revealed significant differences in the cagA gene and the integrity of the cagPAI between…

Ethnicity association of Helicobacter pylori virulence genotype and metronidazole susceptibility.
TLDR
Successful colonisation by different H. pylori genotypes is dependent on the host's genetic makeup and may play an important role in the clinical outcome and no association was observed in the cagPAI genotypes.

Evaluation of the effect of cagPAI genes of Helicobacter pylori on AGS epithelial cell morphology and IL-8 secretion
TLDR
An intact cagPAI was found to play an important role in the pathogenesis of DU but not GU or gastritis, and the cagA gene was associated with the induction of IL-8 and the morphological changes of the AGS cells.
Gene Diversity of H. pylori cagPAI Genes in Patients with Gastroduodenal Diseases in a Region at High Risk of Gastric Cancer
TLDR
It is demonstrated that East Asian-type cagPAI genes are associated with severe clinical outcomes in the region at the high risk of gastric cancer.
Mixed Infection with cagA Positive and cagA Negative Strains of Helicobacter pylori Lowers Disease Burden in The Gambia
TLDR
The prevalence of H. pylori is high in dyspeptic patients in The Gambia and that many strains are of the putatively more virulent cagA+, vacAs1 and vacAm1 genotypes, which suggests that harbouring both cag-positive and cags-negative strains is protective.
Analysis of the 3' Variable Region of Cytotoxin-Associated Gene A (cagA) in Helicobacter pylori Isolates in China
TLDR
The diversity of CagA variants in H. pylori strains isolated from Chinese patients in China was investigated, and there existed mutations in both the East Asian and Western type CAGA.
Helicobacter pylori cagE, cagG, and cagM can be a prognostic marker for intestinal and diffuse gastric cancer.
The EPIYA-ABCC motif pattern in CagA of Helicobacter pylori is associated with peptic ulcer and gastric cancer in Mexican population
TLDR
The goals of this study were to investigate the frequency of cagA-positive Helicobacter pylori in Mexican patients with gastric pathologies and to assess the association of cAGA EPIYA motif patterns with peptic ulcer and gastric cancer.

The cag Pathogenicity Island of Helicobacter pylori Is Disrupted in the Majority of Patient Isolates from Different Human Populations
TLDR
The integrity of the cag pathogenicity island is determined by using specific flanking and internally anchored PCR primers to know the biogeographical distribution of strains carrying fully integral cag-PAI with proinflammatory behavior in vivo to contribute to the understanding of the pathogen-host interaction in health and disease.
Correlation between variation of the 3' region of the cagA gene in Helicobacter pylori and disease outcome in Japan.
TLDR
H. pylori infection with the cagA genotype with >4 R1 sequences may correlate with the pathogenesis of atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer.
Structure of cag pathogenicity island in Japanese Helicobacter pyloriisolates
TLDR
Induction of interleukin-8 induction was lower with the cag PAI partial deletion strains than with the intact ones, and the presence of thecagA gene is not an invariable marker of cagPAI related virulence in Japanese strains.
Helicobacter pylori cag pathogenicity island genotype diversity within the gastric niche of a single host.
TLDR
Co-existence of diverse genotypes of putative virulence factors in a single host must be considered when drawing a correlation with clinical presentation.
Determination of Helicobacter pyloriVirulence by Simple Gene Analysis of the cagPathogenicity Island
TLDR
The cagE gene seemed to be more useful in discriminating between H. pylori strains causing different rates of disease progression, and neutrophil infiltration in gastric mucosa was significantly milder in patients infected with partially or totally deleted- PAI strains than in those with intact-PAI strains.
cag, a pathogenicity island of Helicobacter pylori, encodes type I-specific and disease-associated virulence factors.
TLDR
The cag region may encode a novel H. pylori secretion system for the export of virulence determinants and Transposon inactivation of several of the cagI genes abolishes induction of IL-8 expression in gastric epithelial cell lines.
Distinctiveness of Genotypes of Helicobacter pylori in Calcutta, India
ABSTRACT The genotypes of 78 strains of Helicobacter pylori from Calcutta, India (55 from ulcer patients and 23 from more-benign infections), were studied, with a focus on putative virulence genes
Clinical outcome after infection with Helicobacter pylori does not appear to be reliably predicted by the presence of any of the genes of the cag pathogenicity island
TLDR
Although the presence of thecag PAI is highly associated with duodenal ulcer, the clinical outcome of infection with H pylori is not reliably predicted by any gene of the cag pathogenicity island.
Association between cag-pathogenicity island in Helicobacter pylori isolates from peptic ulcer, gastric carcinoma, and non-ulcer dyspepsia subjects with histological changes.
TLDR
The cag-PAI is a strong virulent marker in the disease pathogenesis as it is shown that a large number of those infected with strain with complete cag -PAI had one or the other of the irreversible gastric pathologies and interestingly 18.5% of them developed gastric carcinoma.
